Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As many of you know, summer is a time when churches undergo a lot of work behind the scenes. Planning, training, and equipping often occur over the summer in order to allow for a smoother transition into the more public and active ministry seasons. I’ve been enjoying meeting with ministry team leaders, attending trainings, and planning with many of you as you seek to faithfully serve our church in so many ways. It’s a busy time, but we trust that if our labor is in the Spirit, it will reap an abundant harvest. In the meantime, I give thanks for you all every day as I see the Lord’s faithfulness and his guiding hand in our midst.
I’d like to provide you with some important dates to put on your calendar:
August 4: This Sunday we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. I encourage you to read Philippians 1:18-26, the text for Sunday’s sermon, and spend a few minutes in prayerful meditation, asking the Lord to prepare your heart for this covenantal meal.
August 11: Rev. Don Johnson, a fellow minister in the PCA, will preach a sermon entitled “The Way of Wisdom” on Proverbs 3:13-20.
August 25, 5pm: Mark your calendar for a potluck and Refocus 2020 update. During our time together I’ll share specific steps we’ll be taking this fall to implement Refocus 2020, and we’ll also hear from some of our team leaders as they share about ways they are helping us move forward in the areas of missional prayer, mercy, and mentoring.
September 8: Sunday school resumes for all ages.
Following the service this Sunday, the Austins will be traveling down south to visit family. I will be back in the office on August 15th. Additionally, Rosa Matos will be out of town next week and will return to the office on Tuesday, August 13th. In case of a pastoral emergency, please contact one of our elders.
Please join me in praying for our various ministry teams as they are all working hard to prepare for the fall ministry season.
With great affection for all of you,
Pastor Rhett
