Dear Faith Community Church Family,
Jeremiah 14:9 says, “O LORD, you are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name.” Wherever we are, we can say confidently with the prophet Jeremiah that the Lord is with us. Furthermore, as the prophet says, God has called us by his own name. We belong to him. We are members of his redeemed family. This is the biblical antidote for combatting fear and anxiety, especially as we navigate life during a pandemic. We are to bring our anxieties to our loving Father and rest in his presence with us. We know that we are called by his name as those who belong to his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
This Sunday we continue our sermon series in Proverbs by looking at what this book of wisdom teaches us about mercy and justice. In fact, one of the main purposes of the book is that we might “receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity” (Proverbs 1:3). Our God cares deeply about justice and mercy, and this Sunday we’ll discover how justice and mercy fit into the life of wisdom.
In addition to the Sunday morning worship service, there will also be a link in the email to the Missional Prayer Service. This service is intended to be 30-45 minutes. I encourage you to set aside time in the evening to follow the order of worship for the Missional Prayer Service; perhaps even connecting with another person in our congregation either on the phone or via video chat to worship and pray together.
While we desire to begin meeting together for worship as soon as we are able, for the sake of everyone’s safety, we will continue our online services at least through April 12.
For those who would like to give their tithe online, you may now do so through our website. You may also send a tithe check to the church at 910 Main St, West Chicago IL 60185.
Finally, I want to recommend two resources on the book of Proverbs that will help you grow in your knowledge of Scripture and in your walk with Jesus:
- An online introduction to Proverbs assembled by the Gospel Coalition (free)
- A one-year devotional on the Proverbs by Tim and Kathy Keller (available in print and ebook)
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or pastoral needs.
O LORD, you are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name. (Jeremiah 14:9)
In Christ,
