Midweek Update: April 15, 2020

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

This week I was reminded of a powerful quote by the Dutch Christian, Abraham Kuyper: “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all, does not cry ‘Mine!’” This past Sunday we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus. His resurrection is proof that indeed Jesus reigns over all of creation. Death and the grave could not hold him. Praise God for the gift of his Son, who did for us what we could never do for ourselves, in taking upon himself our sins through his death, and being raised to life so that we might have life through his name.

A few things to keep in mind this week:

This Sunday and next, Ted Powers, a teaching elder in our denomination, will share God’s Word in our worship service. This week he will preach from John 11, on Jesus’ raising of Lazarus from the dead. I encourage you to read the passage beforehand in preparation for Sunday’s sermon, entitled “The Other Resurrection.”

If you are in need of a face mask, please contact Natalie Wierenga, who can make sure you receive one. If you would like to volunteer to sew face masks to donate to local organizations in need, Natalie is able to provide you with sewing instructions. Praise God that through the volunteer efforts of Natalie and Julia Doggett, our church has been able to provide face masks to both DupagePADS and the Northern Illinois Food Bank!

If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to make use of the PCA prayer guide: 30 Days of Prayer for the Church, Nation, and World. For each day there is a brief Scripture reading, guidance for prayer, and a short video. This is an excellent resource to direct our focus daily toward the goodness, power, and providence of God and to help us pray missionally for one another, our church, our leaders, and the world.

As you know, the coronavirus epidemic is more than simply a health crisis, it also effects many people’s jobs and incomes. If you are in need of financial or material assistance, the elders want to pray for you and to help meet your need. If you have a prayer request or financial need please get in touch:

May God bless you this week as you serve our risen Savior!

In His service,

Pastor Rhett
