Midweek Update: April 29, 2020

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

Over the last couple of months, one thing that we’ve experienced is that a coronavirus pandemic provokes a wide variety of responses from people: fear, anxiety, anger, grief, but also love, mercy, and service. Times of crisis reveal our hearts. They reveal our strengths, but also our ways of thinking and acting that need to be changed by God’s grace. God uses these trials to transform us. He desires to refine us so that we mirror the beauty, goodness, and love of his Son. One area that each one of us struggles with, to one degree or another, is anger.

During quarantine I’ve noticed that I struggle with feelings of anger more frequently and intensely than usual. This is a God-given opportunity for growth and transformation. On Sunday we will listen to the Proverbs on the topic of anger. How do we address our anger biblically and from the standpoint of the gospel? How can we overcome anger in God’s strength and not our own? I pray that this message will bring transformation to our hearts and lives as we hear what the Scriptures say about anger and how God wants to address it in our lives.

Extension of Stay-at-Home Order Through May

Though we urgently desire to meet together in person as a body of believers for worship, the Lord’s Supper, and fellowship with one another, in order to comply with the extension of the stay-at-home order through the end of May, we will continue to hold our services online. Let’s continue to pray that the Lord would open the pathway for us to begin meeting together very soon.

Additional Ways to Stay Connected:

Send us a Video!

We invite you to share a video update with the church that we will share on our website and Facebook. We will link to these videos in the midweek update. If you would like to share a 2-3 minute video update with our church, please let me know by sending me an email at [email protected].

Weekly Connection Call: Wednesdays at 9:00am

Beginning next Wednesday at 9:00am, Elder Larry LaBelle will hold a weekly connection call for anyone who would like to connect with others over the phone. Check your email for details regarding how to participate, or contact Larry LaBelle.

Online Sunday School with John Higgins

John Higgins will be teaching an online Sunday school for the next four weeks on the General Epistles and Revelation. John is an excellent teacher and has led our adult Sunday school class several times in the past. Later this week, I will send out an email with a link to a teaching video, in addition to a link for a Zoom conversation with John this Sunday at 12:15 pm. Watch the video beforehand and then come ready for some good conversation with John on Sunday via a Zoom chat.

I continue to be encouraged by stories of how you are loving and caring for one another through phone calls, cards, emails and acts of service. Let us keep persevering in the faith as servants of Christ!

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:9-10).

In His strength,

Pastor Rhett
