Dear Faith Community Church Family,
It was wonderful to be able to join together for worship this past Sunday after so many weeks apart. I was greatly encouraged by our time together and was reminded once more of just how important it is to come together on a weekly basis to worship our God and to fellowship with one another as his redeemed people. This week, we will be adjusting the Sunday service schedule by offering two services at 9am and 10:30am (more details below). In this week’s sermon passage, 1 John 2:1-6, the Apostle comforts our hearts by pointing our attention to Jesus, who is the “propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” He is the one who taken the penalty for our sins, so that we might be reconciled to God. I’m looking forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
Please take note of the following for this week:
JUNE 17: INDRELIE FAREWELL Event (Church parking lot, 6-7:30 pm)
Longtime church members Anita and Jim Indrelie will move to Minnesota next week. Tonight we’re taking the opportunity to honor our friends who have been a part of Faith Community for many years. Come out, and feel free to bring a lawn chair, as we spend some time with the Indrelies before they move!
SERVICE TIMES FOR JUNE 21: 9 AM, 10:30 AM
This Sunday we will transition to two services: 9am and 10:30am. Please contact Rosa at the church office either by email ([email protected]) or via phone (630/231-8230) to indicate which service you plan to attend. If we near our attendance limits, we will advise you on which service will have more room.
JUNE 18: PRAYER WALK FOR WEST CHICAGO (Street parking near West Chicago Community High School; 6:00-7:30 pm)
Join us for a prayer walk led by pastors of local evangelical churches in West Chicago. We’ll be praying for the flourishing of the gospel in our city, wisdom for our civil servants, justice for the disenfranchised, and victory over the sins of racism and injustice. This is not a demonstration or a protest, but a time of prayer. We seek the shalom of the city (Jeremiah 29:7) and long to see God’s will be done in West Chicago as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).
PRAYER ROUTE (1.5 miles)
We will gather on the sidewalk in front of West Chicago Community High School (east side of the building). Please use street parking. After a time of prayer in front of the high school, we will walk north on Joliet St., cross over Geneva St. and go through the pedestrian tunnel. We’ll stop to pray in front of the West Chicago Community Center, then move on to praying in front of City Hall. We will pray in front of the police department and then move to the park at the corner of Clayton St. and Sycamore St. We’ll go west on Conde St, cross over Joliet St., and conclude with a time of prayer in front of the high school. Please wear a face mask and practice social distancing while walking and praying. Bring water! For the Facebook event link, click here.
MEN’S BIBLE STUDY RESUMES THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 20 (8 am)
Larry LaBelle is hosting our men’s bible study, set to resume this Saturday, June 20, at 8 am (Mission Center). The study will pick up with lesson seven in the Exodus study book.
WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
Amy-Jo Wierenga will soon be contacting the women in our Wednesday morning bible study to discuss options to begin meeting again at the church building.
PRAYER REQUESTS
Mollie Taylor: Please continue to pray for healing and strength for Mollie who chipped two ribs and has severe bruising on one knee after suffering a fall in her home this past weekend.
Carrie Denlinger: Please pray that the Lord would bring comfort to Carrie who lost her father this week; pray also that she would be kept safe as she flies to Oregon for the memorial service and to be among family.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:1-2)
In Him,
Pastor Rhett
