June 24 Midweek Update

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

Last week several of us witnessed a beautiful example of God’s unifying grace at work when over 70 people from multiple churches in West Chicago came together for a bilingual prayer walk for our city. As we walked the city, we prayed for local business owners who have been affected by the coronavirus quarantines, we prayed for our mayor and city council, we prayed for the police, we prayed for the marginalized in our city, and we prayed for students and teachers in West Chicago schools. During such a divisive time in our culture, I praise God that he used the local churches of West Chicago to be a witness to the love and peace that he offers all people through his Son. I’m thankful for your prayers as we prepared for this event, which God so richly blessed, and I anticipate seeing the fruit of our prayers in days and months to come.

Sunday Worship Services: 9:00am and 10:30am

This Sunday, our sermon text will be 1 John 2:7-14, where John gives both an “old” and “new” command to the churches: the command to love your brothers and sisters in Christ. Loving God’s people is a distinguishing characteristic of those who are walking in the light of Christ. “Whoever loves his brother abides in the light,” he says in 1 John 2:10. As we did last Sunday, we will hold two worship services, 9:00am and 10:30am. In order for us to stay within the recommended CDC and state capacity guidelines, we ask that you contact the church to let us know which service you will be attending. Please call (630) 321-8230 or email ([email protected]) to let us know which service you plan to attend. If you forget to do so, please do not let this hinder you from attending the service.

Missional Prayer Services

During the summer months we will not be meeting for our monthly missional prayer service. We will begin meeting once again for the missional prayer service this fall. I encourage you to continue to pray missionally by using the prayer guide provided each week in the bulletin.

Prayer Requests

John Klingberg: Please pray that God would give strength to John as he has recently started in-home hospice care.

Steve Roberts: Please pray for healing after a back surgery this past Monday. Due to complications, Steve has returned to the hospital for care.

Josiah and Paola Viland: We praise God for providing a new house for Josiah and Paola, which they were able to move into this week.

I look forward to worshipping our God with you this Sunday! As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or pastoral needs.

” . . . the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.” (1 John 2:8)

 In Him,

Pastor Rhett
