Midweek Update: July 1

Midweek Update: July 1

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We live in a culture of constant consumerism. When we are flooded with social media and advertising, we can easily begin to see ourselves and others as commodities instead of precious images of God. But this is not the way of Christ. We are told by the Apostle John, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (1 John 2:15). When we are fully secure in the love of the Father, our affection for the world and the things thereof noticeably decreases. My prayer is that this Sunday’s sermon on 1 John 2:15-17 would reorient our hearts toward godly loves and desires, shaped and informed by God’s Word. When we want what God wants, we can trust that our desires will be fully satisfied.

Sunday Worship at 9am and 10:30am

Once again, we will offer two services this Sunday in order to be able to gather together for corporate worship in the safest way possible. Since we are planning to keep a two service schedule during this season (and to save you time!), we ask that you call or email Rosa Matos (630-321-8230; [email protected]) this week to let us know which service you plan to regularly attend. In the coming weeks, if you need to switch services, please contact Rosa via email or phone. As always, if you forget to call, please don’t let that hinder you from attending worship.

Sunday Worship on July 12

We’re looking forward to welcoming fellow PCA teaching elder Don Johnson back to the pulpit next Sunday. Don will be preaching from Isaiah 58:13-15, a powerful passage that speaks of the God-given gift of the Sabbath. Please note that for scheduling reasons, this month we will be observing the Lord’s Supper on the second Sunday of the month (July 12).

Prayer Requests

Donna and Ernie Siefert: Please continue to lift up Donna Siefert’s 96 year-old father who is recovering from a surgery. Donna and Ernie are visiting her family in Wisconsin this weekend and hope to be able to visit her father at the hospital, pending COVID-19 guidelines. Please pray for Donna, her father, and her family.

Josiah and Paola Viland: The Vilands’ baby’s due date is July 10; please pray for the Vilands as Paola expects to deliver soon. Watch your email for news of Silas’ delivery and information on how we can support the Vilands with meals after their little boy’s arrival.

May you have a safe and joyful fourth of July!

And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:17)

In Him,

Pastor Rhett
