Midweek Update: December 9

Midweek Update: December 9

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

As the prophet Isaiah looks forward to the day of restoration and redemption that will come through the Messiah, he says,

“And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
and all flesh shall see it together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 40:5)

In the coming of Christ and through the proclamation of his Gospel, the glory of God has been made manifest to all people. The glory of God is to be broadcast far and wide as God’s people proclaim the Gospel message and shed his love to the nations.

In Isaiah 40:1-11, the sermon text for this week, the prophet speaks of the comfort that comes to God’s people who have suffered during captivity; a comfort that we can now all experience personally in Jesus Christ.

Outdoor Advent Prayer Gathering This Sunday

This Sunday evening, at 5:00pm, we will join together for our Advent Prayer Gathering. During this time, we will pray that the “glory of the LORD shall be revealed” to the people of Haiti, and that God would use the bibles our church is donating to strengthen his children spiritually. Prayer stations will be set up outside with firepits, and hot chocolate and snacks will be available. We’ll also have a prayer area available indoors.

We would love to have you participate in this special time. If you would like to bring snacks or cookies, please contact Larry LaBelle.

Christmas Eve Services: 5:00pm (in-person) and 6:15pm (in-person and livestream)

Thanks to all of you who RSVP’d for Christmas Eve. Mark your calendars for our Christmas Eve worship services: the first service will be at 5:00pm and will be in-person. The second service will be at 6:15pm and will be both in in-person and livestream.

Send a Christmas Greeting!

Record a Christmas video greeting on your phone or computer (30 second-1 minute) and we will include it in a Christmas video collage to be shown during Advent! Please send your video to Tim Wierenga at [email protected].

Advent Bible Project

We are seeking to raise funds to purchase 100 bibles ($9.00 each) for the Cavaillon orphanage in Haiti and are so pleased with the response so far. To participate, take an ornament from the Christmas tree in the lobby (if worshipping in-person). You may make your donation by (1) placing it in the offering plate, (2) making a payment through the church website, or (3) sending a check to the church (910 Main St. West Chicago, IL 60185). If you give through our website, please help us to keep track of donations by contacting Rosa Matos in the church office, notating your intention for your gift to go toward the Advent project (630-231-8230; [email protected]).

Congregational Meeting: Sunday, January 3, 4:00pm (in-person, and livestream)

At our January congregational meeting we’ll be sharing with you what’s next following our Refocus 2020 two-year vision. If you are a FCC member. we hope you will make time to tune in or join us.
