Midweek Update: January 6

Midweek Update: January 6

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

I was greatly encouraged by both our time of worship Sunday morning and our congregational meeting Sunday afternoon. It was exciting to come together in-person and online to share with you more about our church’s priorities following Refocus 2020. In particular, I shared “Our Community Core,” a summary of our purpose (Why are we here?), our identity (Who are we as Faith Community Church?), our core areas of ministry (What do we do?), and our faith (What do we believe?).

If you didn’t get a chance to join us in-person or via livestream, I encourage you to take some time to listen or watch here.

A statement of “Our Community Core” can be found here.

In our Sunday morning sermon series this month, we are turning to the Word to answer the question, “Who are we as Faith Community Church?”

We are a people called out by the Gospel and called into community with the triune God, who share…

A Common King (Sunday, January 3)

A Common Authority (Sunday, January 10)

A Common Spirit (Sunday, January 17)

A Common Life (Sunday, January 24)

A Common Mission (Sunday, January 31)

On Sunday, our sermon passage focused on Hebrews 1:1-14 and emphasized the kingship of Jesus as the center of our community. This Sunday, we will be digging into 2 Timothy 3:14-17, one of the clearest explanations of the nature of the Word of God and its vital role as our highest authority in all matters of faith and practice.

Men’s bible study: This Saturday at 8:00am

The men’s bible study will be back at it this Saturday at 8:00am. The study will begin with the opening chapter of the book of Jonah–a brief, but powerful story about God’s mercy and compassion. Larry LaBelle will be leading the study. The class will meet in the Worship Center in order to ensure social distancing.

Mission trip meeting: Sunday, January 31 at 4:00pm

This summer we will be sending a team to join others from our presbytery to Cavaillon, Haiti (July 23-31). On Sunday, January 31, Ted Powers will lead an informational meeting about the trip. Ted has been leading this trip for numerous years and will be able to answer any questions you might have (for example, “What kind of Covid-19 precautions will be taken?” “How do I raise funds?” “What exactly will we be doing?”). Anyone interested in attending the trip or wanting to know more about our partnership with Chicago Friends of Haiti, is encouraged to attend.

Adult Sunday School: Sunday, January 10, 4 pm (Worship Center)

Our next adult Sunday school session will be this Sunday (January 10) at 4 pm in the Worship Center. We will discuss the chapter on Goodness in the book Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit.

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:9).

 Grace and Peace,

Pastor Rhett
