Dear Faith Community Church Family,
This evening we will hold our Lenten Prayer Service (6:30pm; no livestream, see below). Whereas during the season of Advent we prepare our hearts for the arrival of Jesus Christ, it is during the season of Lent that we prepare our hearts for the celebration of his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Our time together will in large part revolve around Isaiah 42:1-9. This passage is the first of Isaiah’s “Servant Songs” (the other three are found in Isaiah 49:1-13, 50:4-11, and 52:13-53:12). Each of these Servant Songs prophesy the coming of Jesus Christ, the Servant of the Lord, who has taken our sin upon himself. As the perfect Servant of God, he has succeeded in every area that we have failed. During the Advent season, we looked at those key passages that pointed forward to the Messiah’s arrival; this evening, we’ll return to the book of Isaiah and reflect on Isaiah’s first Servant Song.
No livestream of service this evening: We will not be livestreaming the service this evening. Due to a possible COVID-19 exposure, our “livestream team” is unable to be present at the service. We will however provide an audio recording of the service on our website later this week.
An expanded order of service for this evening’s prayer service is attached to this email and available on our website (including Scripture texts, hymn lyrics, confession and assurance of pardon, etc.). I encourage you to use the order of service on your own (or even via video chat with others, if you are able).
In addition to the order of service, a prayer guide, prepared by Susie Wetherington, is attached and is also posted on the website. This prayer guide is intended to be used during the part of the service entitled “Season of Prayer.”

This Sunday our sermon text will be Acts 1:6-11, a passage that combines two momentous events in the history of salvation: the calling of the disciples to worldwide witness and the ascension of Jesus Christ.
