March 3 Midweek Update

March 3 Midweek Update

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We serve a God who keeps his promises. Before Jesus ascended, he told the disciples to return to Jerusalem and wait for the “promise of the Father” (Acts 1:4). The disciples obeyed. They spent the next ten days in prayer, preparing for the arrival of the Spirit. On Pentecost (one of the Jewish festivals), the Holy Spirit descended, and was poured out on Jesus’ followers. Luke says, “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” The disciples miraculously begin to speak in foreign languages–the languages of the Jews who had come to Jerusalem from all over the ancient world for Pentecost. What exactly were they saying in these various languages? We are told that they were declaring “the mighty works of God” (Acts 2:11). The moment the disciples receive the Spirit they immediately begin sharing with others the great things God had done in and through Jesus Christ. This is a gospel for people of every nation, culture, and language. Our sermon passage for this Sunday is Acts 2:1-13.

This Sunday we will gather together for the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. I encourage you to take time before our service to prepare your hearts by spending time in the Word, prayer, and confession.

Holy Week and Sunday Morning Service Change Beginning Sunday, April 4

Holy week is just around the corner. We will hold a Good Friday service at 6:30pm on April 2 in the Worship Center. Additionally, based on the significant decrease of COVID-19 positivity rates in our region and the continued distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines, we will be transitioning to one Sunday morning service beginning Easter Sunday, April 4. The service will be at 9:30am. Our capacity in the Worship Center will be set at fifty, with overflow seating available. We will continue to offer the service via livestream. Beginning with our Good Friday service, we will also have live music at our services. The elders continue to stay informed regarding the relevant COVID-19 data for our region, and will make adjustments to these plans if circumstances change significantly before April 4.
