Midweek Update: July 28

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

Last Sunday we tracked the Apostle Peter’s travels from Jerusalem to the town of Lydda, where Aeneas, a paralyzed man was miraculously healed by the power of the risen Jesus. From there we followed him to Joppa on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, where God worked through Peter to restore the life of a godly disciple named Tabitha. This Sunday we see Peter being led, through a series of miraculous events, to the house of a Roman commander named Cornelius. Luke says that Cornelius was “a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God” (Acts 10:2). Cornelius was a Gentile, a non-Jew, but he was a very moral person, who prayed to God and tried to obey him. However, even though Cornelius was a good person, he hadn’t experienced the forgiveness of sins and the heart transformation that comes through believing in Jesus. He needed to hear the Gospel. This is why the Lord led Peter to this man. As we pray for our community, for the nation of Haiti this week, and for our own nation during these tumultuous times, our most urgent prayer is that the Gospel would take root in the lives of those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior and King.

This Sunday we will share in the Lord’s Supper together. Please ready your hearts before the Lord in preparation for this covenantal meal.

Don Johnson Preaching August 8 and 15

The Austins will be out of town August 8-17 for a family trip to New Mexico. Don Johnson will be sharing God’s Word on Sunday, August 8th and Sunday, August 15th in a two-part series from the prophet Malachi and the Gospel of John, entitled “Be Still.” If there is a pastoral emergency during this time, please do not hesitate to contact elders Larry LaBelle or Tim Wierenga.

Director of Children and Youth

Our youth director, Ryan Lorimer, has served faithfully in his position ministering to our high school students since August 2019. With a child on the way (see how you can serve the Lorimer family below) and increased work responsibilities, Ryan will not be continuing in this role but will conclude his work at the end of August. We’re thankful for the excellent work he has done over these last two years.

Our aim is to fill the position for the Director of Children and Youth for the upcoming ministry year (beginning after Labor Day). The elders will be interviewing candidates in August for this role. Please join us in praying that the Lord would guide this process of determining the right person for this important role of directing the ministry to our children and youth.

Membership Class: Saturday, August 21 (9:00am-3:00pm)

On Saturday, August 21 (9:00am-3:00pm), we will hold a membership class for those who would like to take the important step of church membership at FCC. The class is also for those who are simply wanting to find out more about our church, our denomination, and what membership entails. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested in attending the class, please contact Rosa Matos in our church office (630-231-8230; [email protected]).

Welcoming Baby Lorimer

We are excited to support and celebrate with the Lorimer family as they prepare to transition to a party of four at the end of this month. Please join us in welcoming baby Lorimer through sending diapers and wipes to their home address. Be on the lookout for another opportunity to serve the Lorimers through taking their family meals once the baby arrives.
