Midweek Update: September 22, 2021

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

The first missionary journey of Paul and Barnabas was truly a ground-breaking trip. This was the first time a local church sent out missionaries into foreign territory to be witnesses to Jesus and his Gospel. In the passage for this Sunday, Acts 14:1-28, we follow the two men as they travel to several cities–Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe. They then turn around and revisit the churches to strengthen and encourage the young congregations. It is no walk in the park as Paul and Barnabas experience opposition at almost every turn. One word that comes to mind as I read this passage is faithful. Despite the opposition and persecution, and the highs and lows they experienced on the journey, Paul and Barnabas remain faithful and committed to Christ and their calling to share the Gospel message. This Sunday we will look at Acts 14:1-28 where Paul and Barnabas complete their journey and return to their home church in Antioch to share all that the Lord had done through them.

Rosa Matos Transitioning to New Job

After 5 ½ years as our office administrator, Rosa Matos will be transitioning to a full-time position with a company located in Carol Stream. Rosa has served our church faithfully and has been a great blessing to all of us in her position as our office administrator. Rosa’s final day will be Friday, October 1. In the coming weeks, prior to filling the position, there will be administrative needs in our church office (such as preparing the bulletin, responding to email and phone calls, editing and posting the weekly sermon on our website). If you would like to volunteer to assist us with these tasks, please contact Pastor Rhett  or Rosa (630-231-8230; [email protected]).

Men’s Weeknight Bible Study beginning Monday, October 4 (7:00pm-8:00pm)

If we are called to glorify God in all areas of our life, then how do we glorify him in our job (or retirement)? This fall Pastor Rhett and Don Johnson will lead a men’s Monday night study (9 weeks) on the topic of work and the Christian life. The class will follow Work That Makes a Difference by Dan Doriani. The study will be held at Don Johnson’s house (address in your emailed midweek update). If you would like to attend, please contact Rosa Matos ( [email protected]), who will provide you with a copy.

Fall cleanup Morning (AKA “Donut Day”) on Saturday, October 16 (9:00am-noon)

The church fall cleanup morning will be held on Saturday, October 16 (9:00am-noon; rain date: October 23). Join us as we trim bushes, rake leaves, clean gutters–and, of course, eat donuts.

Prayer Requests

Julia Doggett and family: Please continue to pray for Julia and her family following the loss of her mother, Lou.

Karla Van Der Molen: Pray that our Lord would encourage and strengthen Karla in light of an ALS diagnosis.

Mark Lewis (Ernie and Gary Siefert’s cousin): Pray for strength and healing for Mark who is hospitalized due to brain cancer.

In Christ,

Pastor Rhett
