October 13, 2021 Midweek Update

Dear Brothers and Sisters

Over these two weeks we have been journeying through Revelation 3:14-22, a passage that clearly displays Jesus’s love for us. His commitment to his people, the people for whom he shed his own blood, is readily apparent in verse 19: “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.” When the Spirit convicts us of sin (for example, anger, pride, self-dependance, sexual immorality) and leads us to repentance, we are being given an incredible gift from the Lord. He is leading us into the freedom of forgiveness and deeper communion with him. This Sunday, the sermon will focus particularly on the hope of those who remain faithful to Jesus even through opposition and persecution. We are told in verse 21: “The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.” As we’ll see, to be “one who conquers” requires humility and daily dependence upon the Lord himself to give us strength and to keep us faithful to him.
