January 5 Midweek Update

January 5 Midweek Update

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Here is a quick and interesting fact for you: Within the last 25 years the number of products an average supermarket carries in-store has increased from 8,000 to 47,000.

One thing this tells us is that in America, we like having options (at least when it comes to our grocery shopping). However, as we’ll see in Acts 16:25-40, when it comes to our relationship with God, we have two options available to us. We can either respond to him in faith and obedience or we can respond with unbelief and disobedience.

Acts 16:25-40 tells the story of a divinely orchestrated earthquake and its aftereffects. For one man this earthquake leads to his salvation. The Philippian jailer recognizes that the God of Paul and Silas is behind the event and he believes in the Gospel message. The city authorities, on the other hand, harden their heart and are more fearful of people than they are of God. They refuse to acknowledge the God of Paul and Silas. He is the God of incredible power, but also the God of abundant mercy. When the jailer asks how to be saved, Paul gives clear and simple instructions: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
