Midweek Update: August 31

Midweek Update: August 31

Brothers and Sisters,

Do you know of any greater privilege than being able to go to our heavenly Father in prayer knowing with confidence that he will hear us? Prayer is not something we do so we can check it off the list; prayer is a way of life. This is what the Apostle Paul is getting at when he says, “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We breathe in the Word and we breathe out prayer.

If we want to be a Spirit-filled church, we have to be a prayer-filled church. This fall we have the opportunity to grow in the area of prayer through our Sunday school series A Praying Life. We will begin our class on A Praying Life on Sunday, September 18 following the worship service. During this 18-week series we will follow both the book and the discussion guide.

We will be ordering the copies of the books and study guides soon, so we request that you let us know if you will be participating in this class by this coming Sunday, September 4. You can contact the church office ) or sign up on Sunday in the narthex at the welcome table. A Praying Life costs approximately $13.00 and the discussion guide is $10.00. If you are able to give a donation for your resources, please make a check out to Faith Community Church with “Praying Life” in the memo line and place it offering plate or church office. Please don’t let lack of finances prevent you from participating, however.

This Sunday we welcome Rev. Caleb O’Dell to our pulpit. Rev. O’Dell is a member of our presbytery, Chicago Metro, and is on staff with Christ Presbyterian Church. He will be sharing God’s Word with us from Genesis 49:8-12.

Please take time to prepare your heart for Communion by taking time for prayer and confession prior to this Sunday’s worship service.
