Midweek Update: December 28

Midweek Update: December 28

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

It was a joy to worship with you at our Christmas Eve and Christmas morning worship services. What a wonderful Savior we have been given in Jesus Christ, the light of the world. As we read in Isaiah:

“The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.”

(Isaiah 9:2)

The next two Sundays we will welcome two guest preachers to our pulpit, Andy Iversen and Don Johnson. This week Andy Iversen will be sharing God’s Word with us from Psalm 115.

This Sunday we will hold a special New Year’s fellowship time at 9:00am before the service as we did last Sunday. If you would like to bring a dish to share for the fellowship time, please contact Amy-Jo Wierenga.

 Finally, we will celebrate communion together this Sunday. Please take time to prepare your heart beforehand in prayer and confession before we come together for this covenantal meal.

Update on Emergency Shelter

Thank you all for your care and concern for the families and individuals who were staying temporarily at our church in the emergency shelter. The shelter is now closed as the clients were able to transfer to a local hotel last Thursday, and they continue to be assisted by the Red Cross and Puente del Pueblo, who are helping them find housing. The Red Cross and the families expressed their deep appreciation and thankfulness for our church’s hospitality and service.

If you would like to give to the Puente del Pueblo fund to assist with housing and material needs for the families, you can do so by writing a check to Faith Community Church, indicating that it is for the Puente del Pueblo fund. After funds have been collected, a check from the church will be sent to Puente del Pueblo. You can also give through our church’s website; if you do so, please note in the memo field that the funds are for Puente del Pueblo.

A Word of Thanks

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Advent Giving project to benefit the Neighborhood Food Pantry. We were able to donate many boxes and bags of food and necessities from Faith Community Church. Thank you also to the Mercy Ministry Team for overseeing this project!

Congregational Meeting: January 22

Following the worship service on Sunday, January 22 we will hold a congregational meeting in the Mission Center. The meeting will include an update on our Called to Flourish three-year vision, a time for small group discussion, and a time of prayer for our church and community. All members are encouraged to attend, if possible.
