Midweek Update July 12, 2023

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Sunday we heard about the great things Jesus has accomplished on our behalf through his death and resurrection. Hebrews 9:11-22 tells us that the blood of Jesus has opened the way to the heavenly sanctuary, purchased eternal life, purified our conscience, inaugurated the New Covenant, and provided for us an eternal inheritance. In our passage for this Sunday, Hebrews 9:23-28, we read that Jesus “has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself” (v. 26). When Hebrews says Jesus appeared “at the end of the ages,” it means that God was guiding and directing all of history under the Old Covenant to culminate in the coming of Jesus, the Savior of the world. The events of history are not random; they are providentially arranged to point to and lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

The Austins will be out of town visiting family in Alabama from July 17 to 31. On Sunday, July 23, Phil Smith, an FCC supported missionary with First Love International, will preach God’s Word, followed by Don Johnson on July 30. If you need pastoral care, please contact one of our elders, Larry LaBelle and Tim Wierenga.

Donate to WeGo Together for Kids

Our church will be donating 100 wide ruled spiral bound notebooks for the WeGo Together for Kids Back to School Event. WeGo Together for Kids works with local churches and organizations to collect school materials for hundreds of children in the West Chicago school system. Wide ruled spiral bound notebooks may be placed in the donation box located in the Narthex. The last day to donate is July 31.

Women’s Ministry Announcement

After faithfully leading our Women’s Ministry Team for many years, Amy Paglia will be stepping down from this role (though continuing to serve in the women’s ministry), and Jenny Johnson, who has served for the last several years as the assistant leader, will lead the Women’s Ministry Team. The session and the congregation are very grateful to Amy for her service to our church and look forward to continued fruitfulness of the women’s ministry under Jenny’s leadership.
