Midweek Update: December 13, 2023

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The theme for the third Sunday of advent is joy. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 the Apostle Paul writes, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Advent offers us the opportunity to exercise the disciplines of joy, giving thanks, and prayer. You might be carrying any number of burdens this Advent season. If so, remember the words of 1 Thessalonians 5, and offer all your concerns and anxieties to God with joy, knowing that he cares for you. This Sunday, we will turn our attention to Haggai 2:10-19 as we continue our Advent series The Coming Glory.

As a reminder, our fellowship time throughout Advent will take place at 9:00am in the church narthex.

This Sunday: Community Christmas Lunch (11:00am)

This Sunday we’ll gather in our newly renovated Mission Center at 11:00am for the Community Christmas Lunch. I encourage you to invite colleagues and neighbors to join us this Sunday for worship and lunch. If you’d like to contribute to the meal by bringing a salad or dessert, please email or call the church office. Though an RSVP is not required, if possible, please contact the office to let us know if you will be attending and how many guests will be joining you.

We need a few volunteers to help with set up and take down for the Christmas Community Lunch. Set up will take place this Saturday at 9:00am and take down will immediately follow the lunch on Sunday.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service (6:30pm)

Join us on Christmas Eve at 6:30pm for our candlelight service when we gather together to praise our Lord through Scripture readings, prayer, and singing.

Advent Giving Project

This year our Advent Giving Project benefits the Haitian orphanages, churches, and schools overseen by El Shaddai Ministries International and Chicago Friends of Haiti. Due to the political crisis in Haiti, feeding the children in the orphanages, schools, and churches has been a challenge. The Chicago Metro Presbytery is sponsoring an Advent drive to raise funds to provide food. You can donate by placing your check in the offering plate or by giving through our church’s website. Please indicate that the donation is for the Advent Giving Project.

Donations for Main Park Apartment Fire Victims

Donations for the Main Park Apartment fire victims can be made through the WeGo Together for Kids website. You may also mail a donation check to WeGo Together for Kids (222 E Willow Ave, Wheaton IL 60187), indicating the check is for the Main Park Apartment emergency fund.

Prayer Requests

Gary and Karla Van Der Molen: Continue to pray for our sister Karla as she and Gary attend to her ALS.

In Christ,

Pastor Rhett
