Midweek Update January 31, 2024

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

In Mark 1:17, Jesus says to Simon and Andrew, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). We saw on Sunday that the word “become” entails a deep change or transformation, not wrought by our own strength but given to us as a part of our identity. This is why Jesus says, “I will make you become fishers of men.” As I shared in Sunday’s sermon, our greatest opportunity as we look toward the future of Faith Community Church is to become a church of fishers of men, a church that brings the gospel–joyfully, lovingly, and compassionately–into our community and neighborhoods.

The first step, which we have been focusing on since our Called to Flourish vision began a year and a half ago, is kingdom prayer. This Sunday we will hold our first monthly Kingdom Prayer GatheringDuring our time we’ll focus on two things: eating together and praying together. This Sunday will be a chili night and we’ll meet in the Mission Center at 5:00pm. After eating together, we’ll turn our attention to prayer and finish at 6:30pm. Sign up at the table in the Mission Center to participate.

Our sermon passage for this Sunday is Mark 1:21-28. Please prepare your hearts through prayer and confession before we come together to take the Lord’s Supper.

Prayer Drive: Saturday, February 10 (10:00am-11:30am)

You might have heard of or participated in a “prayer walk”; well, this is a “prayer drive.” Pastor Rhett will lead the first prayer drive on Saturday, February 10. We’ll meet at the church and remain in our cars during the prayer drive, following a charted route caravanning to various locations in and around our community. We’ll pause to pray together in our cars for God’s transformative work in our neighborhoods, asking specifically for a movement of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of our neighbors so that they may have their lives transformed by the Gospel.

Lenten Prayer Service: Wednesday, February 14 (7:00pm)

Join us on Wednesday, February 14 at 7:00pm for our Lenten prayer service. Throughout the forty days of Lent we prepare our hearts for celebrating the resurrection of Jesus through confession, prayer, and repentance. The service will be a special time of singing and prayer as we begin the Lenten season together at Faith Community Church.
