Midweek Update February 21

Midweek Update February 21

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Has there been a time in your life when you were struggling, and you knew Jesus was able to help you, but you wondered “Is he willing to help me? Does he want to help me?” This is an important question, and the Gospel of Mark shows us how Jesus responds to those who come to him with their needs. In our sermon text for this Sunday, Jesus heals a man with leprosy. This man was an outcast. He was ceremonially unclean due to his skin disease, and yet when he falls on his knees and cries out, “If you will, you can make me clean,” Jesus responds with compassion: “I will; be clean.” The man is instantly healed. Jesus is not only infinitely powerful, he is also unfathomably compassionate. He restores the man’s physical health and reunites him with the worshipping community of God. This Sunday our sermon passage is Mark 1:40-45.
