Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Have you ever had the experience of going on vacation and packing more items than you would ever actually use? Did you really need the three extra hair dryers for a weekend in Michigan? Or the snowshoes for your trip to the Great Sand Dunes National Park? I’ve certainly done this sort of thing (and more than once).
In Mark 6:7-13, Jesus calls the Apostles to himself and sends them out into the surrounding villages to preach the gospel. But before he releases them for this mission trip, he gives them some important instructions. Mark says, “He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts—but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics” (vv. 8-9). Jesus wants them to travel “lean.” He wants them to know not only that the spreading of the gospel is an urgent mission, but also that it is a divinely ordained mission. If God has called them to this task then he will provide for them. This is equally true for his followers today. The spreading of the gospel is an urgent matter, and God will see to it that all our needs are cared for as we serve him in playing our role to further the spreading of the message of salvation. This Sunday we turn our attention to Mark 6:7-13.

This Saturday: Men’s Breakfast (9:00am)
All men are invited to a men’s breakfast on Saturday, July 20 at 9:00am. We will meet at the Egg Yolk Café in West Chicago (100 N. Neltnor).
Church Membership Class (August 17 and August 24; 9:00am-Noon)
If you are interested in becoming a member of Faith Community Church, we will hold our next membership classes on Saturday, August 17 and Saturday August 24. Each class session will be taught by Pastor Rhett and will take place in room 3/4. Following the class on August 24th, the Austins will host a lunch for all those attending. If you plan to attend the class, or have any questions about the class, please contact Pastor Rhett.
Church Cleanup Day: Saturday, July 27 (9:00am-Noon)
Join us on Saturday, July 27 (9:00am-noon) for our church cleanup day. We’ll trim bushes, pull weeds, and eat donuts as we prepare our building and grounds for the upcoming anniversary celebration.
Chamber Music Concert: Saturday July 27 (6:30pm)
There will be a chamber music concert (“La Belle Epoque”) on Saturday, July 27 at 6:30pm in the Worship Center. It will feature Jake Muzzy on the cello and Mike Messer on the piano. To reserve seats go to realconcerts.us or contact Jake Muzzy. You can make a donation online when you reserve your seat or you may pay at the concert in cash or check.
