Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In our passage this week, we get to go behind the scenes with Jesus as he performs a two-stage miracle to bring sight to a blind man. Without God’s gracious intervention, we will never see Jesus as he truly is; we will be as blind as the blind man in our sermon passage. He has to do the revealing. Many expected the Messiah to be a military hero, a revolutionary zealot who would rout the Roman occupation and drive foreigners out of Jerusalem. Let’s be careful not to make Jesus in our preferred image. His self-revelation is an objective reality we don’t have permission to trifle with. He calls us to come to him and worship him as he knows himself to be: the Savior and Lord of all creation. This Sunday, we turn our attention to Mark 8:22-26.

Hurricane Helene Relief Fund

We have an opportunity to show the love and mercy of Jesus Christ to those in North Carolina who have been affected by Hurricane Helene by giving to a relief fund overseen by Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory, North Carolina, where former FCC pastor Nick Perrin serves as Senior Pastor. If you would like to give to this fund, please write your check to Faith Community Church and clearly indicate that the check is for the hurricane relief fund. You may also give online through our church’s website at this link.

Church Choir Singers Wanted

Choir has started, and they will be singing in service this week! All those interested in joining the choir may email Jenn Wright. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings (6:30-7:30pm) on weeks that we sing together. All voice parts welcome!

Free Self-Defense Class: Saturday, October 19 (3:00pm-4:30pm)

All ladies ages 12 and up are invited to join us on Saturday, October 19 from 3:00pm to 4:30pm for a free self-defense class. Whatever your experience, you will practice skills to keep you and your loved ones safe. Come and be ready to move! We will also share about how Christ has freed us from fear. Prayer Requests

Cornelia Popescu: Continue to pray for Cornelia as she recovers from her knee surgery last Thursday.

Karla and Gary Van Der Molen: Thank you for your continued faithfulness in prayer for Gary and Karla as they manage Karla’s ALS.

Mary Hope Austin: As you may have heard, Mary Hope (the Austin’s youngest daughter) tipped over some boiling water and burned herself on Wednesday. She is currently with Rhett and Valerie at Loyola Burn ICU, and so far the doctors are looking to send her home on Saturday. Please pray for healing for her and for the Lord’s presence to be with the whole Austin family.*
