May 27 Midweek Update

May 27 Midweek Update

Dear Faith Community Church Family,

This Sunday, we continue our series The Lord is My Strength with Exodus 32. Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen the Lord’s great attention to His worship, that His tabernacle would be adorned with all kinds of beauty to reflect some small amount of His glory. Imagine walking into a palace interior that was all somehow inside of a great tent! Between the Lord’s instructions for the tabernacle’s construction and the people’s contributions to that construction, though, there is a short section highlighting the people’s impatience.  They wait for all forty days for Moses to come back, and they quickly depart from the Lord’s instructions for them in Exodus 20 with the Ten Commandments. We might not craft a golden calf nowadays, but how often do we turn from the Lord after experiencing His presence during worship on Sunday mornings? How might we fix our eyes on our loving Lord throughout the week, waiting for Him as He speaks to us in His Word?

Congregational Meeting: THIS SUNDAY, May 31st at 11:00 am

Our semi-annual congregational meeting will be this Sunday, May 31 right after Fellowship Time. Come prepared to hear about our ministry vision going into the fall, the 2027 budget, and Pastor Rhett’s sabbatical!

Congratulations to Our Graduates!

Congratulations to Jacob Hayward, Jacob Couture, and Anna Huggins for graduating this spring! Both Jacobs are graduating from high school, and Anna has graduated from college and starting to teach in the area this fall.

Installation Service for Jonathan: Sunday, June 7th at 4:00pm

Following the completion of his presbytery exams, Jonathan’s last step in ordination will be to be installed as an assistant pastor here at Faith Community Church. This installation service, which will be like a normal worship service, will be when elders from our presbytery come to lay hands on and pray over Jonathan for his new role as a pastor at our church. Please join us for that service on Sunday, June 7th at 4:00pm. A dinner reception immediately following the service will be provided. Please bring sides or salads to share (dessert and the main course will be taken care of).

Calling for Nursery Volunteers!

As we look ahead to Pastor Rhett’s sabbatical, we are looking for more Nursery volunteers! Please contact the church office or text Katie at 630-485-0153 for more information.

Directory Updates: Turn in Your Updates by Wednesday, June 3rd

The new directory pages will be printed on June 3rd and distributed on Sunday, June 7th. If you would like your contact information or personal biography updated in the directory to help connect with other members in our congregation, please speak with Katie for a directory update form.

Caring Network Baby Bottle Drive: Bring Your Bottles by Father’s Day (June 21st)

Caring Network is a Christian ministry devoted to loving and serving women considering abortion. Simply take a baby bottle from the table in the church office hallway and fill it with coins (or a check!) and return it by Father’s Day, June 21. View this video on how your giving saves the lives of the most vulnerable.

Community Celebration: Saturday, June 13th (11:00am-3:00pm)

Mark your calendars for the second Saturday of June! Returning from last year, we will host our Community Celebration to kick off the summer for our surrounding community. We aim to bless our community with a midday of games, music, and food trucks. Contact Jonathan Keller with any questions.

This Summer: A Praying Church Book Study

We recently held the A Praying Church seminar at our church, and this summer we’ll be digging deeper into what it looks like to be a praying church. In June, July, and August, we will have a monthly discussion and prayer group focused on the book A Praying Church by Paul Miller. More details forthcoming.

Prayer Requests and Praises

Ray Bebee: Pray for Ray as he begins chemotherapy again, for Laura and him to have strength and hope in the Lord and for his doctors to have all wisdom.

Austin Family: Pray over their preparations for Pastor Rhett’s upcoming sabbatical and for their time away as a family this summer.

Community Celebration: Pray for preparations and for the hearts of those in our community to desire to come and engage in Gospel conversations.

Jonathan Keller: Praise God for Jonathan’s successful completion of his presbytery exams!

Camilla Bahrke: Pray for Camilla, daughter of Ric and Bobbie Berkius (former Wycliffe missionaries), who has a rare and unidentified form of cancer. Pray for her surgery on June 11th and for her husband and three small children.

With joy,

Jonathan Keller
