Faith Kids

Mission:

Faith Community Church exists for the glory of Christ, the growth of his church, and the good of the community.

The vision of the ministries to children and youth of Faith Community Church is to see children and youth equipped for a lifetime of obedience to Jesus.

This obedience entails delight and joy in God and the gospel, as well as faith that seeks understanding through the various developmental stages of human maturity.

Our desire is to commend to the next generation a long obedience in the same direction.[1] This “long obedience” entails equipping families and all those involved with discipleship to children and youth with the resources needed to teach the necessary content, the biblical competencies, and the Christlike character that are the fruit of abiding in Christ. As covenant children grow into youth who become young adults, they are equipped to weather the shifting tides of culture and to stand against “every foolish and empty doctrine” that is contrary to the bible and biblical teaching. At the same time, we aim to see all our children winsomely witnessing to the truth while developing godly and flourishing human relationships. They are seen as future adults, eventually to be entrusted with the leadership of the church and responsible for their own families.

Per the Coronavirus crisis: Our nursery care during worship is currently available on an as-needed basis; Valerie Austin is available in the nursery every Sunday from the confession to the prayers of the people, as is Amy Paglia. All of our adult nursery volunteers are background-checked and trained in caring for young children.

Worship Service │9:30am

Children are welcome to stay with their parents for the duration of the service, or a nursery is available as a help to parents of children four and under at any time during the service.  We offer loving care in a safe environment.

Elementary age children join their parents and participate in the time of worship. There is a sense of awe children experience worshiping in community. If desired, we offer some clipboards and colored pencils for children to enjoy during worship.

Children’s Classes │11:00am

Our children’s ministry is currently engaged in the Teach Me to Worship curriculum, produced by the PCA. Teach Me to Worship prepares children for their eternal occupation: worship. Through visual bible stories, lessons, and crafts, as well as through learning the New City Catechism and portions of the Westminster Children’s Catechism, children are given a biblical-theological foundation of worship that explains why we do what we do Sunday mornings (ie., the call to worship, confession, prayer, reading the Scriptures, listening to the Word preached, the offertory, sacraments, and benediction). This curriculum sees children as full members of God’s people who are being equipped to engage in regular corporate worship. The class is taught by Valerie Austin with rotating adult aides: Amy-Jo Wieringa, Kristi Wright, and Abbie Armstrong.

Child Protection Policy

We place an uncompromising priority on maintaining a safe and healthy environment for the children under our care. Our nursery and building are under constant video surveillance. We require a minimum of two unrelated female adult volunteers to staff our nursery and two unrelated adults to staff our Sunday school at all times with any children that are not the nursery workers own children.  All adult children’s ministry staff and volunteers have submitted to annual background checks and have been educated in our policies prohibiting sexual, physical, mental and emotional misconduct. All children 10 years old and under must be signed in  by a parent or guardian. We use the organization TrueHire or our safety training and checks.
