Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This Sunday we officially begin our fall ministry season at Faith Community Church. During our worship service we will have the joy of receiving new members into the Faith Community Church family.
In addition to welcoming our new members during the service, following the worship service this Sunday we will hold an outreach lunch at 11:00am. As we say in our purpose statement, our church exists for the good of the community. On Sunday, an invitation card was included in each bulletin. I encourage you to ask the Lord who you could invite to our lunch on Sunday, whether a next-door neighbor, a family friend, or a coworker. Visitors are invited to attend both the worship service and the lunch or to join us for the lunch only at 11:00am. All food will be provided. To help us get a general idea of the amount of food needed, we do ask that you contact Rosa Matos in the church office if you will be bringing others with you. Please pray that the Lord would bless our time together and would use this lunch to help us reach our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The sermon text for this Sunday is Acts 13:1-12, the beginning of the gospel mission “to the ends of the earth” through the missionary work of Paul, Barnabas, and John Mark.

Called to Worship Sunday School Series Beginning September 19
What do you think of when you hear the word “worship”? “Worship” includes making music unto the Lord, but it is also so much more. As we grow in our Christian life, we grow in our understanding that we need to relate to God on his terms, not ours. Our Sunday school course on worship will seek to understand worship from a biblical perspective–what it is, why we do it, and how to do it in a way that pleases God. Join us for this class as we seek to gain a deeper understanding of the beauty and glory of our God and how the Scriptures teach us to worship him as our Savior and King.
Men’s Weeknight Bible Study
If we are called to glorify God in all areas of our life, then how do we glorify him in our job? Connecting the Christian life to the workplace is not always an easy task. This fall Pastor Rhett and Don Johnson will lead a men’s weeknight study (9 weeks) on the topic of work and the Christian life. The class will follow a book by Dan Doriani called Work That Makes a Difference. Details regarding start date and time forthcoming.
Prayer Requests
Julia Doggett and family: Please pray that our Lord would encourage Julia and her family following the loss of her mother, Lou.
Karla Van Der Molen: Please pray that our Lord would strengthen and encourage our sister in light of an ALS diagnosis.
Finally, I recommend a new devotional podcast on the Psalms. The podcast by Dane Ortlund, pastor of Naperville Presbyterian Church (PCA), will provide brief devotional reflections on all 150 psalms.
In Him,
Pastor Rhett
